Most siliceous stone - granite, sandstone, slate and quartzite - manufacturers recommend using vinegar to clean and maintain your natural stone surfaces. But definitely, do not use this vinegar solution on marble, limestone, travertine or onyx surfaces unless they've been sealed, as the acid from the vinegar will harm them.

Clean natural stone surfaces with a neutral cleaner, stone soap, or a mild liquid dishwashing detergent and warm water. Similar to any item cleaned in your home, a surplus concentration of cleaner or soap may leave a film and cause streaks.
