In general, there are five main column styles: Doric, Ionic, Corinthian, Tuscan, and Composite.Three of them are of ancient Greek origin: Doric, Ionic, Corinthian. The types of Roman columns include the same layouts as those in ancient Greece.

There are very rich natural stone resources of marble, travertine, limestone and onyx in both countries. The Greeks and Romans chose marble for their buildings because of its beauty, variety, ease of processing and long durability. In the architectural structures of both cultures, the columns were used not only for architectural concerns but also for carrier purposes.

The Corinthian style is the most lavish of the Greek Orders. Corinthian style is more complex and elaborate than the earlier Doric and Ionic styles. The capital, or top, of a Corinthian column has opulent ornamentation carved to resemble leaves and flowers.
