They are usually between 5 and 25 cm in sizes and are often made of granite, basalt, gneiss, porphyry natural stones. Generally granite or basalt is used in places where human and vehicle traffic is heavy. But you can also use limestone and sandstone cobblestone in garden arrangements. Crushed stone: if your patio will be used more extensively, a crushed stone base would be a good option to go with.Sand: If you're looking for a base that allows water to seep through then sand may be a good choice

For a completely natural look, nothing beats natural stone for a patio. There are many different types of natural stone to choose from including granite, gneiss, porphyry, travertine, quartzite, slate, sandstone, bluestone and limestone.
