Step 2: Edit and improve the footage, watch it more than once and find try to improve it in every possible manner.

Step 3: Once your film is ready, its better that you upload the footage on a social network or YouTube. Learn from the viewers comments. Improve the film where required, accept your mistakes and always leave a room for improvements.

The advantage of creating a short film is that it helps you to save time and money. It also gives you the experience to make bigger films in the future. Obviously it is better to learn through short films rather than making a huge film with a big budget and then facing failure.

You need to be very careful in selecting the equipments. Equipments are very expensive and difficult to buy. Step 2: Learn the following features of your camera

  • Focus ring
  • White balance

Once you plan your short film, rehearse your idea again and again.  If you want to avoid getting many takes in your film, make sure your actors practice the lines and actions. This will save your time and money.

Step 4: Complete the photography

Step 5: Edit the film

Make sure you edit your film. With the right skills, a free program that came with the computer can make stunning films.

Step 6: Show the film to friends and family and post it to YouTube

If you really want to make your career in film-making submit it to film festivals and send it to film agencies. Remember, the more publicity you get, the better short films you will be able to make in the future.

How to Make 3-Dimensional Videos

The misconception about the 3-dimensional movies is that they are exclusive to big theatres and major Hollywood blockbusters. It is a total misconception, you as a film-maker can create impressive three dimensional videos as well.

Which software to use to get a 3-D effect?

Three Dimensional movies are made by layering two videos on top of each other. The method of making a normal film 3-D is that one video is tinted red and the other video is tinted cyan. The popular softwares that can duplicate the tinted videos are Final Cut Pro, Adobe’s Premiere, Cyberlink, Corel and Magix.

Steps to Make your footage 3-Dimensional

Step 1: Once you have made the movie, Import your footage

There are different softwares, each software has its own protocol of importing video. Upload the video you are attempting to three-dimensionalize.

Step 2: Work on duplicating the footage

Make sure you select the software which allows you to duplicate the footage because not all the softwares give this option. Manage your layers and be sure you can go back and forth between videos easily.

Step 3: Start adjusting the appearance of the footage, Tint your footage

Select one of your layers and adjust the color so that the color is red. Then select the other layer and color it cyan. When doing this you won’t instantly see the 3D effect.

Step 4: Work on the transparency of the footage

To make your footage 2 dimensional you need to play with the transparency of the videos.  Set the opacity of top layer to 50%. This will create blend of colors.

Step 5: Work on the Positioning of videos

Position your footage appropriately so that a 3-d effect is created.

How to prepare for outdoor shooting?

Video shooting requires a set of skills and expertise. Not everyone can start video shooting. You need to lean the techniques and understand the different methods before starting to shoot. Within the video shooting domain, outdoor shooting is a bit tougher than the indoor shooting.

Difference between the indoor and outdoor shooting

The basic rules for indoor and outdoor shooting are the same. The indoor shoots are easier than the outdoor shoots. You don’t have to face the sudden rainstorm, clouds or wind. You can shoot according to the plan and on time. While in outdoor shoots you face a lot of delays, a burst of wind can destroy well-planned audio. A quick change in temperature can trigger the camcorder’s dew-protection system, leaving your camcorder unusable.

Pack a Survival Kit

Take a camera kit with you for the outdoor shoots. The hard case that comes with the camcorder, no matter how much protection it offers for the camera itself, has some problem associated with it such a quick access problem and not enough space for the accessories. Hence a soft bag is recommended, a bag to accommodate your camera in the central part, to give maximum protection, from where quick access of the camera is ensured so that you don’t miss your surprise shot. In some cases professionals utilize the Styrofoam molding from the camcorder box to make a jig to hold the camera in the center of the bag.

When outdoor shooters find a critical cable missing, there is no running into the next room to pick it up. Know what you need–and what you might need ahead of time and bring it with you. You can integrate your outdoor survival kit into your camera bag by reserving separate sections of the bag for the camcorder, audio accessories, video accessories and power accessories.

When you are out in the nature and you find out that a critical cable is missing, that is a disaster beyond repair. So pre plan your trip, know what you need, even know what you may need and take it along. By using the survival kit, you can allot separate space in your bag for such accessories to avoid any operational adversity.

Last but not the least, a pair of head phones is must for an outdoor shooter as music will not only be your companion but also will help you focus best.

Shooting on Sunny Days

Shooting outdoors is preferred by many videographers because they can take advantage of many sceneries, sunlight, surroundings etc. But shooting outdoors brings many problems with it. The videographer has to manage the sunlight, the changing environment conditions, the unpredictable winds and many other unforeseen events. Maintaining control over your shooting environment is the key to making outdoor shooting a success. As a videographer, the one element that will cause you the most grief is ambient light. Following are some problems a videographer has to deal with while shooting outdoor:

Achieving the right light balance

It is a misperception that all the white light is the same. Brightness is different from the light color. White light is actually a mixture of light of many different colors, is actually tinted to a degree by the mixture of those colors. Video graphers have to manage the lighting differences by adjusting the camcorder’s white balance.

How much sunlight is appropriate?

The quantity of the light is not a issue while shooting. Sometimes abundance of light, can pose problems for the videographer. Sometimes too much brightness can make for an ugly combination of hot spots and pronounced shadows. A videographer has to deal with a high contrast shot like this in a number of ways. Either you can wait for another day and let the weather become appropriate for you or create an artificial diffuser by creatively using a white bedsheet, or some other translucent white material, to soften the sun’s light.
